Angelica archangelica
Properties:
- Astringent, tonic, diuretic, vulnerary, cholagogue, anti-inflammatory.
- Contains volatile oil, furanocoumarin compounds, angelica acid, sugars, flavonoids, and sterols.
Traditional Uses:
- Internal use: Beneficial for arthritis, eczema, coughs, bronchitis, and pleurisy. Stimulates digestion, circulation, and the respiratory system. Alleviates flatulence, colic, and cystitis. Stimulates appetite.
- External use: Helps with inflammation of the chest, rheumatism, and gout. Effective for acne and athlete’s foot. Used in gin making and as an insecticide.
Directions for Use:
- Decoction: Boil 1 teaspoon in 1 cup of water, simmer for 2 minutes, remove from heat, let stand for 15 minutes, then drink 1 cup three times per day.
